Teeth Whitening: Reveal the Sparkle of Your Smile
Over time, our teeth lose their natural whiteness and yellow due to reasons such as tea, coffee, acidic drinks, and cigarette use. Sometimes, genetically, our tooth color is not as white as we want. This is where the Teeth Whitening (Bleaching) procedure comes into play.
The topic my patients are most afraid of is: "Doctor, will I damage my teeth?" Let's clarify this issue.
Is Teeth Whitening Safe?
The short and clear answer: Yes, it is completely safe when done in professional hands.
Whitening gels used under the control of a dentist do not physically damage or potential abrade the tooth enamel (the outermost layer). They only chemically dissolve the color pigments settled in the pores of the tooth.
However, beware! Homemade methods such as "whitening powders" with unknown ingredients sold on the internet or baking soda-lemon mixtures can scratch your tooth enamel and cause permanent damage. Please stay away from these methods.
